Organization Background: The Fleet was the first museum of its kind to combine hands on exhibits and an IMAX dome theater. The Fleet prides itself on its ability to involve visitors and create a safe learning environment for both adults and children. The Fleet provides this learning through their hands on exhibits, workshops, presentations, and classrooms. The Fleet has a strong volunteer program in which people of all ages can volunteer to work at the Fleet as a Museum Embassador and later a Gallery Facilitator. The core of the Fleet is to have a fun time, while learning science, and inspiring the minds of tomorrow. Project: Julian’s project entailed the revamping and revising of an already existing training system. Through a series of meetings, brainstorming, and collaborative work, Julian created a new program that had many advantages over the old system. This new training included a workshop to teach trainees how to properly interact with visitors and engage them in the science. One of Julian’s main goals was to take the training off of paper, and make it a more hands on experience, which he succeeded in doing. Personal Experience and Takeaways: Julian felt that he had succeeded in internship. He came away from the internship with a new view on the typical work day. The experience gave him first hand knowledge on what his future could look like. He also grew his collaboration and creative thinking skills throughout the internship. He has since continued to volunteer at the Fleet. |
